THE BUZZ: Even though this second chapter of the rebooted Spider-Man franchise looks like lite-Marvel entertainment akin to Thor, we fear the movie won’t be able to wriggle out from the waves of scrutiny slung at it. There has long been talk of character fatigue since its predecessor didn’t earn more than any of the releases from the Sam Raimi/Tobey Maguire trilogy. Before a frame of the film was shown, there was negative reaction to Mary Jane (Shailene Woodley) being cut from the storyline; after the first few looks, everyone with an Internet connection and passing interest in the project began to wonder if there were too many villains wedged into a single movie. And on and on. We admire Sony’s all-in bet on Peter Parker by giving the green light to two additional sequels and a couple spin-off films (hey,Venom). And if this movie is best remembered as the lead in to The Sinister Six, we’re just fine with that.
